How to use ECD Parenting Toolkit?

Guidelines for using the ECD Parenting Toolkit

The Parenting for Early Childhood Development Toolkit is an interactive platform divided into three areas: programme cycle phase, UNICEF parenting strategy component, and nurturing care component.

The outer-most level of the infographic represents the parenting programme cycle phase, consisting of the five stages of: i) planning; ii) design; iii) implementation; iv) monitoring and evaluation; and v) uptake and scaling. Click on the components to access key definitions, guiding questions and considerations, resources for each phase of the programme cycle

The middle level of the diagram represents the UNICEF parenting strategy component, consisting of: i) enabling environment; ii) workforce; iii) awareness; iv) gender; and v) participation. Click on the components to access key definitions, guiding questions and considerations, resources on Parenting and the five pillars of UNICEF’s Parenting Strategy.

The inner-most level presents the five components of nurturing care, consisting of: i) good health; ii) adequate nutrition; iii) responsive caregiving; iv) early learning; and v) safety and security. Click on the components to access key definitions, guiding questions and considerations, and resources for the five areas of nurturing care

The toolkit is designed such that there is no one specific starting point. Users are encouraged to start with whichever component is most relevant to their specific need or interest. Moreover, although each component is presented as distinct, they are all interrelated and feed into one another.

The guiding questions, considerations, and resources included in each section are not exhaustive, but rather intended to serve as a starting point for further exploration of each area.

Users can also directly access the consolidated library of all resources by clicking the magnifying glass icon and using search filters to navigate resources.

Additionally, users can access a list of examples of parenting programmes from around the world organized by the type of programme as outlined in the table below.
